Our Story

Charlotte
"In 2018, I was a single Mum living with my one-year old son Jack when I was introduced to Luke by my Matron of Honour, Lisa, a good friend whom I’ve known since school days. Her husband Tom knew Luke from his school days and through this connection our journey began. Lisa realised from the start that we would be a perfect match and her intuition was right.
Our first date was in June 2018 at The Fox & Hounds in Riseley; just a quick drink and some nervous chat. A few weeks later, we had our second date at our favourite restaurant Miller & Carter in Bedford. Afterwards, we walked along the Embankment and had our first kiss. Ever the romantic, Luke plucked up the courage to kiss me ......... under some scaffolding!!! I was nevertheless thrilled.
In October 2018, it was time for Luke to meet Jack, who was now 18-months old. I was nervous but there was no need to worry as they instantly hit it off and became the best of friends. What I’ve come to love about Luke is the way he treats Jack as if he was his own; he is a very caring and loving Step-Dad.
After the 2020 lockdown, we moved into a brand-new house together in Blunham; and we love the close-knit community there. One year later in August 2021, we decided it was time to grow our family and to have our own child. After IVF treatment, miscarriages and much heartache, we finally welcomed Oliver to the world in June 2023. Jack was desperate to have a baby brother and he was over the moon when Oliver arrived.
A month before Oliver’s arrival, Luke took me to the Aqua Sana Spa in Woburn and surprised me by dropping down on one knee and asking me to marry him; of course, I had no hesitation in saying yes".

“In 2018, I was living by myself in Bedford. I had a simple life of work, cricket and football – what’s not to like. Then Charlotte came into my life and things have never been the same since…in a very, very good way. Thank you, Lisa for introducing us.
After enjoying our first date, a second date was on the cards. Result! I had it all planned, to go for a romantic walk down the embankment and to kiss Charlotte at one of the romantic spots but I bottled it, so under some scaffolding it ended up being! Oops! Lucky for me this didn’t put Charlotte off.
I was nervous meeting Jack, even more so than when I first met Charlotte. I was keen to make a good impression even to an 18-month old. We took a lovely walk to the local park in St Neots, where Jack and I got to enjoy the swings together. Jack found me hilarious as you can see in the video clip in the Gallery. It was a great start to what has become an amazing relationship.
We had three great years as a family of three and not forgetting my best mate Buddy (the dog). Unfortunately for us growing our family wasn’t as easy as we had hoped. I hated seeing Charlotte go through the miscarriages and all the invasive treatments but like all great stories we had our happy ending (or beginning whichever way you look at it) getting our beautiful boy, Oliver, was worth it.
I had the engagement planned for months. Secretly measuring Charlotte’s ring, pretending a Spa weekend was a Christmas present. The plan came together perfectly and Charlotte suspected nothing. Luckily for me she said yes!!!"

These photos show how our relationship and family has grown. When we first fell in love, Luke accepted Jack as his own and became a loving and caring Stepdad. With the recent addition of our own son, Oliver, our beautiful family is now complete.

Bringing Oliver into this world was neither straightforward nor stress free and wouldn’t have happened without the benefits of medical science. We realise how very fortunate we are and we would like to give something back so that others less fortunate may also experience the joy of having a healthy and happy baby.
Accordingly, we kindly request no wedding gifts. If you would like to make a charitable donation instead, please click on the button below to contribute to our chosen charity Tommy’s.
